This zine will be fashioned like a visitors guide to the Unova region. It will include writing, art, and activities that are "in universe," so to speak, meaning that the final product will look like a visitors guide from the canon world!

Zine Specs

We plan to accept around 12 writers, 20 page artists, and 5 merch artists. Our current page count estimate is about 84 pages. This zine will be 7” by 10” perfect bound.

A little about finances

This zine will function on a pay for production (p4p) model, meaning that when preorders open, the price will be set at the cost of production. We will add a small surcharge to help subsidize contributor shipping costs.Contributors and the public alike will be able to purchase the zine for about $6-10 dollars (this is an estimate), with an option to tip the zine to subsidize contributor bundles and shipping. Merch for the project is TBD.Any remaining profits will be donated to a charity determined by the contributors and mods of the zine.While this means that contributors are not guaranteed a free physical bundle, it also means we can share our love for pokemon with as wide an audience as possible!

Contributors

Artists
Artists will be asked to either:
1) collaborate in a small team of 1-3 people (writer and possibly another artist) to create an article with 1-3 "photographs,"
2) draw 1-2 small "advertisements," or
3) draw 1 full-page "advertisement."To apply, please send us three samples (larger portfolio optional) that showcase your:
- backgrounds/landscapes/sceneries, if you would like to create "photographs" for articles
- typography/graphic design skills, if you would like to create advertisements
- love for Pokemon; Pokemon samples are not required but are encouraged
- ability to draw Pokemon/animals/creatures

Writers will be asked to write 1-2 articles for the visitors guide! These articles will NOT be traditional pieces of fanfiction, but rather "articles" that you could imagine coming from a visitors guide to Unova (e.g., restaurant overviews, articles on cultural events in the region, you get the idea!).To apply, please send us two writing samples and article pitch(es) that showcase your:
- ability to write in a short-form nonfiction style
- creative ideas for what you'd like to work on for the zine
- knowledge of Unova/Pokemon B&WWe will be evaluating based on your pitch and the two writing samples. One of the samples must be in a nonfiction style similar to what you'd do for the zine, and the other can be anything of your choice. Pokemon samples are one way to show your knowledge of Unova but you can also do this through your pitch; therefore, they are not required. Merch artists will be asked to complete 1 or 2 pieces of merchandise, depending on the size. For instance, a merch artist might be asked to do two buttons as a set, or one charm by itself.To apply, please send us three samples that show your:
- art samples that are merch or would lend themselves to being merch (e.g., simple chibi designs, pieces with strong silhouettes, etc.)

FAQs

How will mods keep in contact with contributors?
Upon acceptance, contributors will receive a link to the zine’s Discord server. It is mandatory to join the server, as this is where the mod team will post updates throughout the zine’s creation, production, and fulfillment periods.Is this a physical zine?
Yes, this zine will be printed physically. We also plan to include physical merchandise in our bundles!What region will this zine focus on?
Based on the results from our Interest Check, the Pokemon Visitors Guide will focus exclusively on the Unova region.How will contributors be compensated?
All contributors are guaranteed a full digital bundle of the zine. Any money we have leftover after sales will go towards subsidizing contributor shipping; however, we do not expect to cover full bundles, as this project is p4p.
